The short version: Yes. The Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream is a lightweight gel-cream that genuinely delivers 24-hour hydration and a visibly more radiant complexion — clinically proven, 20+ years on the market, and loved by women over 50 more than almost any other moisturiser. I use it. It works. Five versions available: Original, Rose, Ultra Rich, SPF 30, Ultra Rich SPF 30.
I’ll be honest: I came to the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream a little late. I had heard about it for years — it kept appearing on every “best moisturiser for mature skin” list, dermatologists mentioned it, women in their fifties swore by it. I kept telling myself I’d try it eventually.
When I finally did, I understood why it’s been a bestseller for over twenty years. That doesn’t happen by accident.

What it is — and what makes it different
The star ingredient is Padina Pavonica, a Mediterranean brown algae that Elemis uses across their entire Pro-Collagen range. It’s clinically shown to improve skin hydration by 45% and reduce wrinkle depth with consistent use.
Alongside it: Chlorella (a microalgae that helps with skin regeneration and soothes inflammation — really useful for those of us whose skin got more reactive after menopause) and Ginkgo Biloba (antioxidant protection against environmental damage).
One thing I want to be clear about, because I think honesty matters here: this is a moisturiser, not a clinical serum. It doesn’t contain retinol or growth factors. What it does — extremely well — is hydrate deeply, plump the skin, and create a base that makes everything else in your routine work better.
If you want to address deep wrinkles or firming, you pair it with a retinol in the evening or a growth factor serum like CALECIM®. The Marine Cream is your daily moisturiser, not your treatment step.

How it feels on the skin
The texture is what I’d call a gel-cream — lighter than a traditional cream, richer than a serum. It absorbs quickly, which I love, because I hate waiting around for my moisturiser to sink in before I can apply SPF or makeup. It leaves a velvety, slightly plump finish — skin looks hydrated but not shiny.
The scent is Elemis’s signature: rose and mimosa, delicate and distinctly spa-like. If you’ve used the Cleansing Balm, it’s a softer version of the same family.
What I noticed in the first week: my skin felt more comfortable. That constant low-grade tightness that started after 50 — especially around my cheeks and jawline — was noticeably reduced. By week two, the texture felt smoother and my makeup sat better on top.

Which version is right for you — all five explained
This is actually the most important question with this cream, because the right version makes a real difference.
Original — the classic, the one that started everything. Lightweight gel-cream, perfect for normal to combination skin. If you’re not sure where to start, start here.
Rose — same formula, softer scent. A little more floral, a little gentler on the senses. I recommend this to anyone who loves the idea of Elemis but finds the signature scent slightly intense.
Ultra Rich — this is the one for dry or menopausal skin. Cocoa butter added to the base makes it noticeably more nourishing. If the original leaves your skin feeling a bit under-moisturised — especially in winter or after menopause — this is your version.
SPF 30 — the original formula with sun protection built in. One less step in the morning, which on busy days is genuinely useful. For everyday urban sun exposure, this covers you perfectly.
Ultra Rich SPF 30 — the most complete option: deep nourishment for dry skin plus daily SPF in one product. If you want to simplify your routine and your skin is on the drier side, this is the version I’d pick.

My honest results
I use the original Marine Cream in the morning, after the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm Rose and before SPF. In the evening I swap it for the Overnight Matrix.
What I can say after consistent use: my skin looks more awake. More even. Foundation goes on more smoothly and lasts longer. The tiredness that tends to show up around my eyes and jawline is less visible — even on bad sleep nights. And that tightness I mentioned has basically gone.
Is it a miracle cream? No. It’s not going to lift your cheeks or fill in deep lines — that’s not what it does and I wouldn’t want you to spend the money expecting it to. What it does is keep skin in the best possible condition every single day, which is actually the most important thing a moisturiser can do.
In a NewBeauty survey of 550+ women over 50, this was named the most-loved hydrating skincare product of all time. After using it consistently, I understand why completely.
Is it worth the price?
Yes, genuinely. A quality daily moisturiser that performs consistently, absorbs beautifully, and makes your skin look better every day is not a luxury. It’s an investment in how you feel when you look in the mirror.
That said, it works best as part of a routine. Pair it with a good cleanser, a retinol a few nights per week, and SPF every morning — and you have a solid, complete approach to mature skincare that doesn’t require a facialist every month.

Frequently asked questions
Is it good for menopausal skin?
Yes — especially the Ultra Rich version. After menopause, skin loses oestrogen-driven hydration and gets noticeably drier. The Ultra Rich formula’s extra emollience makes a real difference. Pair it with a retinol (evenings) for a more complete approach. → Best skincare for menopause
Original or Ultra Rich?
If your skin is normal to combination — original. If it’s become drier since menopause, if you feel tight by mid-afternoon, or if you’re in a cold climate — Ultra Rich.
Can I use the SPF 30 version as my only sunscreen?
For everyday city life, yes. For the beach or long days outside, add a higher SPF on top.
Where does it go in my routine?
Last step in the morning — after cleanser, serum, eye cream. In the evening, the Overnight Matrix takes its place.
Does it work under makeup?
Beautifully. It’s one of the best pre-makeup moisturisers I’ve tried. Let it absorb for 2–3 minutes, then apply SPF or foundation and everything layers perfectly.
