The best Massimo Dutti pieces are the ones made from wool, cashmere and leather, plus a couple of very good pairs of jeans. That is where the brand truly shines, and these are the buys that stay in your wardrobe for years rather than months.
When I asked my readers and subscribers which high-street brands they wanted me to cover, Massimo Dutti came up again and again. I was delighted, because it’s one of my own favourites: I own quite a few pieces, and some have been on heavy rotation for many seasons.
So I put together an edit for you (and, honestly, for myself too): 12 pieces plus one wardrobe hero, with why I’d choose each one, how to style it and a direct link. Short on time? Start with the table.

Is Massimo Dutti worth it?
Think of Massimo Dutti as Zara’s more grown-up sister. Same group, but cleaner tailoring, more natural fibres and a palette that never dates. That said, not everything is a bargain, so it pays to know where to spend.
After many purchases (and a few mistakes, I’ll admit), my verdict is clear. Cashmere, wool outerwear and leather offer the best value, and the jeans are a lovely surprise. That is exactly what this list focuses on.
If you’re building a capsule, every piece here slots neatly into the fall/winter capsule wardrobe I shared earlier.
The best Massimo Dutti coats to buy now
1. The short wool-blend coat
My first pick is this short wool-blend coat. It’s the elegant-but-easy kind of outerwear you grab on the way out without a second thought.
The length is what makes it so useful: it works with trousers, jeans and skirts, even over a midi dress. The high collar and visible buttons add that polished finish that makes everything look a little more expensive.
How I’d wear it: with the brown midi skirt further down this list and black ankle boots. Tonal, effortless and very chic.
2. The long wool-blend trench coat
I tried this one in store, and it’s the kind of coat that stays with you for years. The long wool-blend trench coat has a classic yet modern line: double-breasted, belted at the waist, with buttoned epaulettes.
It’s perfect over tailoring, but just as good with jeans and boots. The taupe grey is a warm neutral that flatters most of us and genuinely never goes out of style.
Pair it with a sharp jacket underneath, as in my guide on how to wear a blazer over 50, and you have a winning formula for the office.
Cashmere and knitwear: small luxuries you can feel
3. The 100% cashmere scarf
I own this one, in three colours actually: black, grey and blue. The 100% cashmere scarf is a piece Massimo Dutti brings back every year in new shades, simply because it sells so well.
The cashmere is woven incredibly fine, almost weightless. You can wrap it however you like and it keeps you warm without bulk. At 145 x 120 cm, it doubles as a shawl over your shoulders.
An honest note: because it’s so delicate, my black one has developed a few tiny holes over the years. It hasn’t stopped me wearing it hundreds of times, and I’d buy it again tomorrow.
This season there’s a buttery vanilla shade that’s gorgeous if it suits you. I’m tempted, but with pale colours expect to wash it more often, as foundation always leaves a trace.
4. The orange cashmere sweater
Less basic, but it won me over. Orange is a tricky colour: depending on the shade it can look cheap or incredibly elegant. This orange 100% cashmere sweater is firmly in the second camp.
I saw it in person and the tone is warm, deep and autumnal. I’d wear it with a camel coat and beiges, or be bolder with plum or dark burgundy. In winter it looks stunning with all-white, too.
If orange feels too much, the same sweater comes in calmer colours: light blue, navy, red and camel.
5. The fine V-neck sweater
This is the piece we tend to overlook and then end up wearing the most. The fine V-neck sweater works on its own, under a jacket or beneath a cardigan.
I fell for it in mink, an ultra-refined nude beige, but it also comes in vanilla, navy, burnt orange, ecru and black. Choose your neutral and you’ll reach for it all season. It’s also the most affordable piece on the list.
A less obvious idea: wear it over a slip skirt, as in the photo. The mix of soft knit and sheen makes even a daytime look feel special.

The 3 buys I would make again in a heartbeat

6. The brown nappa leather midi skirt
It’s a true classic and a fashion piece at the same time. Brown is one of the loveliest colours for autumn and winter, and it’s everywhere this year. This nappa leather midi skirt looks refined without ever being too much.
It’s 100% leather with a straight silhouette and visible stitching. It’s the biggest investment here, but also the kind of piece you’ll wear for a decade without a second thought.
I’d style it with a soft sweater in the same shade, a crisp white shirt or a fitted black turtleneck. Elegant, but never overly put together.
7. The dark straight-leg jeans
Here’s one of the most interesting buys in terms of value. Massimo Dutti jeans, across most styles, are very well priced: you can feel the quality the moment you touch them, and the cuts are beautiful.
These high-rise straight jeans in dark blue are the pair that stays with you practically forever. The straight leg is a true classic and, in my experience, one of the most flattering cuts on almost every body shape.
Wear them with blazers, coats, knits and shirts, and with heeled boots or sneakers. I covered more cuts in my fall/winter jeans trends.
8. The mid-rise wide-leg jeans
If you prefer a more contemporary line, these mid-rise wide-leg jeans are a great alternative to the straight pair. A mid rise is the one that tends to suit everyone.
The wide leg adds movement and works brilliantly with a fitted knit, a tucked-in shirt or a structured coat. Shoes? Anything goes: sneakers, ballet flats, heeled boots, even pumps.
Shoes: two ankle boots for the whole winter
9. The leather heeled ankle boots
A winter classic that won’t date in ten or fifteen years. There’s always a need for a boot like this, and I own several versions myself.
These leather ankle boots with a block heel combine everyday practicality with a sleek, city look. The 5.5 cm square heel is stable and the side zip makes them easy to slip on.
My trick for wearing them with a dress or skirt: opaque black tights that blend into the boot. Your legs look longer and the whole outfit looks cleaner.
10. The kitten-heel ankle boots
For something more refined, even for evenings, these kitten-heel ankle boots are elegant and discreet. They’re made of soft lambskin with a pointed toe.
The 3.5 cm heel gives you lift without sacrificing comfort, so you can walk briskly all day. Ideal if you love elegance but have made peace with sky-high heels.
The bag and the shirt: a touch of luxury
11. The nappa leather shoulder bag
Staying with accessories, this nappa leather shoulder bag caught my eye straight away. It has a soft yet refined shape and lifts an outfit, making it look far more expensive without stealing the show.
It works for day and evening, and the size (roughly 27 x 33 cm) fits the essentials. A great option if you want an elegant real leather bag without spending a fortune.
12. The fluid satin shirt
I find it beautiful because it’s so versatile. With the fluid satin shirt, I’d get both the pale, almost ivory version and the black one.
It brings a glow every wardrobe needs from November onwards, and it’s perfect for the holidays. Compared with a basic cotton shirt, it looks far more considered. For more festive ideas, see my Christmas outfit guide.
Wear it with tailored trousers, contrast it with jeans and heels, or pair it with a skirt. Dressed up or down, the glow stays.
The wardrobe hero: black tailored trousers
My last pick is my true passe-partout: a pair of black tailored trousers. No other piece solves as many outfits.
They work with a simple shirt like the satin one, a fine knit, or a plain tee under a blazer. They take you from day to night with a change of shoes and accessories, perhaps a pair of statement earrings.
These have a fluid, slightly draped line in a viscose blend, so they stay comfortable for long days. I have a black pair I adore and simply couldn’t live without.
5 outfits with these Massimo Dutti pieces
The beauty of a tight edit is that everything talks to everything else. Here are five ready-made combinations, from office mornings to holiday dinners.
- Office: wool trench, mink V-neck, black tailored trousers and kitten-heel boots.
- Weekend: short coat, orange cashmere sweater, straight jeans and heeled boots.
- Dinner: black satin shirt, nappa midi skirt, kitten heels and the shoulder bag.
- Holidays: pale satin shirt, black trousers, cashmere scarf over the shoulders and statement earrings.
- Casual chic: wide-leg jeans, V-neck sweater, trench and nappa bag, the essence of elevated casual.
Where Massimo Dutti is worth the money (and where it isn’t)
In my experience, the brand is at its best with natural fibres: cashmere, wool and leather. At the same price point they beat most high-street chains, and with a little care they really last.
A few practical tips: hand-wash cashmere or use a cold wool cycle, then dry it flat. For leather, a nourishing cream once a season works wonders.
On sizing: many pieces have a relaxed fit, so always check the size chart and the model’s height on the product page. For coats and shoes, try them in store if you can. I always do.

FAQ: Massimo Dutti
Yes, especially for cashmere, wool and leather: natural fibres, careful finishing and timeless lines. As with any brand, check the composition label before you buy.
Wool outerwear, cashmere knitwear, leather pieces such as skirts, bags and ankle boots, and the jeans, which offer excellent value for money.
Yes, both belong to the Inditex group. Massimo Dutti sits higher in the market, with more tailored lines and premium materials.
I think so: I have worn mine in three colours for years. It is ultra-light and warm but delicate, so tiny holes can appear over time. Hand-wash it and treat it gently.
Many pieces, especially coats and knitwear, have a relaxed fit. Check the size chart and the model’s height listed on the website, and try in store if you are unsure.
Clean lines, neutral colours and natural fibres: a wool trench, fluid tailored trousers, a luminous satin shirt and low-heeled ankle boots. Elegance without chasing trends.
Final thoughts
That’s my Massimo Dutti edit: coats, cashmere, shirts and accessories where it’s worth investing a little more. I own many pieces from the brand, and they last me for years.
